What We Do

20/20 Seed labs Inc., Canada’s first fully accredited seed testing laboratory provides a full spectrum of agricultural and horticultural services, supporting seed growers, seed and crop protection companies, commercial greenhouses and golf courses.

A world leader in vigour testing, 20/20 Seed Labs Inc, conducts research and development specializing in the screening and commercialization of new products through field trials and in- house laboratory studies.

20/20 Seed Labs Inc., entrepreneurial sprit and strong management has led to collaborative undertaking with numerous government agencies and universities.

As an independent, privately owned company since 1989, 20/20 Seed Labs Inc responds quickly and efficiently to all client needs. 20/20 Seed Labs Inc is constantly developing new tests and methods to ensure prompt delivery of the highest quality molecular diagnostics, seed testing and plant pathology services. In addition to analysis and proprietary testing, 20/20 Seed Labs Inc provides crop inspection, field trial services, consultation, R&D, microbiology and biotechnology services.

20/20 Seed Labs Inc, has completed registration of its Quality Management system to the satisfaction of ISO 9001: 2000 standards. This includes adherence to strict, International, Federal and Provincial quality control standards used to test and grade all crops.

20/20 Seed Labs Inc with its expert technical team of fully qualified seed analysts, plant pathologists, molecular biologists and seed technicians adhere to Canadian Methods and Procedures as required by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.  We also follow protocols as designated by the Association of Official Seed Analysts and the International Seed Testing Association.

History

20/20 Seed Labs Inc. is Canada's first fully accredited, privately owned Seed Testing Laboratory.

Originally incorporated in 1989 to provide seed testing services, we have evolved to offer a more diverse and comprehensive range of professional services to meet the demands of a changing market place, as well as the unique business needs of our clients.

 

1989 – 20/20 Seed Labs Ltd. opens its doors (1000 sq. ft. laboratory).
1989 – First lab to develop diagnostic profile for germination tests.
1991 – Develops first client specific canola vigour tests.
1991 – First to introduce cereal vigour tests.
1991 – Initiated Seed Grader Training at Olds College in Olds, Alberta
1992 – First independent lab to develop preliminary purity testing.
1994 – Moved to larger laboratory facilities (3500 sq. ft.)
1994 – First National President of the Commercial Seed Analysts Association of Canada (CSAAC) - Sarah Foster-Stubbs, President 20/20 Seed Labs Inc.
1997 – Laboratory expands to 6500 sq. ft.
1998 – 20/20 Seed Labs wins ‘Best Booth’ Award at Ag Expo in Lethbridge, Alberta.
1999 – First (and currently the only) private, independent Authorized Hybrid Canola Seed Crop Inspection Service.
1999 – First Seed Testing Laboratory to add a complete Seed Health and Disease Diagnostic Department.
2000 – 20/20 Seed Labs wins ‘Best Booth’ Award at Ag Expo in Lethbridge, Alberta.
2001 – 20/20 Seed Labs wins ‘Best Exhibit’ Award at Manitoba Ag Days in Brandon, Manitoba.
2003 – GENEius award winner - Sarah Foster-Stubbs, President 20/20 Seed Labs Inc.
2003 – First private, independent lab to introduce molecular detection of the Fusarium Headblight fungus Fusarium graminearum (developed in partnership with the Alberta Research Council).
2004 – Nominated for a Manning Innovation Award for the development of the molecular detection system for the Fusarium Headblight fungus Fusarium graminearum (developed in partnership with the Alberta Research Council).
2004 – Hybrid Canola Seed Crop Inspection Unit develops custom software for electronic reporting and GPS tracking capability.
2004 – Received Premiers Award of Excellence (Bronze) for participation in the Diagnostic Field School with Alberta Agriculture, Food and Rural Development.
2005 – ISO 9001:2000 compliant Quality Management System registered by BSI Management Systems.
2005 – 20/20 Seed Labs (Saskatchewan) Inc opens accredited laboratory in Swift Current, SK.
